About Us

The Wee Music School, originally the Wee String School, was formed in 2021 by Aden Mazur and Megan Cormack. Combining our private practices into one school, we found we were able to provide a more well rounded education for our students with the inclusion of music theory classes, and online workshops in fiddle.

Soon, we welcomed Catherine O’Rourke to our team who was passionate about leading classes in music history, and Jenna Stewart (a former pupil of Aden) who taught and led some composition classes before she left to pursue a composition degree at Edinburgh Napier University.

Faith Ockwell joined our teaching team shortly followed by Emma Bell and then Sarah Matthews, our ‘cello and double bass teacher, enabling us to provide lessons in all string instruments alongside our classes and regular performances.

Now starting our fourth year, we have expanded to become the Wee Music School, bringing in teachers for flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tenor horn, euphonium, tuba, drumkit, orchestral percussion, piano and voice. I am very pleased to welcome Catherine O’Rourke, Lucy Webster, Jennifer Cooke, Amy Anderson and Euan Wilson to our teaching team.

Who we teach

At the Wee Music School we are serious. Serious about helping our students reach their potential and having fun along the way. We teach children from as young as 5 to adults in their 80s. The important thing is that you always do your best, practising as regularly and thoughtfully as you can.

Teaching rooms

From August 2024, we are looking forward to moving into our new teaching space within Albyn School. These six music rooms are fully equipped with everything we need, plus there is a nice waiting area for parents, toilet and kitchen facilities all secured with an intercom entry system. We are very much looking forward to making Albyn School our home, and making the most of their incredible facilities to host our classes, workshops and performance opportunities.

Subject to availability and schedules, lessons can also be scheduled at your teacher’s home and, in some rare cases, your home. Contact us and let us know what works best for you, and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Local Groups

There are lots of opportunities to make music together with other people. The best place to find these is https://musicaberdeen.com/ensembles. Created by Aden and his friend and colleague Sam Paul in 2022, this resource will help you keep up to date with what’s going on in and around Aberdeen.

For youth music-making, Aden is also the coordinator of the Aberdeen City Orchestra’s Youth Ensembles. You can find more information about these here: https://aberdeencityorchestra.co.uk/youthensembles. You might find some other familiar Wee Music School faces are involved with these groups too!
